Milwaukegan Distance Race – Waukegan to Milwaukee

1.0 Organizing Authority
The Waukegan Yacht Club and the Milwaukee Yacht Club are the Organizing Authorities (OA) of this race.
2.1 The race shall be governed by the rules as defined in the current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
2.2 The Racing Rules will be modified as follows:
(a) If there is a conflict between this notice and the Sailing Instructions, the latter will take precedence. This changes Rule 63.7
3.0 Eligibility, Equipment and Entry
3.1 Yachts shall be at least 24 feet in length on deck. Yachts under 24 feet must receive Regatta Chair approval.
3.2 Yachts can register for the PHRF Fleet, Short Handed, One Design or the Cruising Fleet.
3.3 The Race Committee shall have full authority to determine the suitability of any yacht for entry in any fleet and may divide any fleet into divisions at its discretion.
3.4 The Organizing Authority may exclude a specific yacht from the race by invoking Rule 76 of the Racing Rules of Sailing (Exclusion of Boats or Competitors) if it determines that the yacht would incur a safety risk by participating.
3.5 Entry Documentation shall include the following:
(a) A completed on-line entry. By completing the on-line entry, the Skipper or Person In Charge (PIC), who must be 18 years, or older agrees to the Waiver and Release of Liability included in the entry submission.
(b) Each yacht sailing in the Short Handed, One Design or Handicap Fleet (Monohull and Multihull) shall provide a valid 2023 MWPHRF Certificate, signed by the Skipper before their registration is valid prior to the entry deadline of August 10, 2023.
(c) Each yacht shall provide a current certificate of insurance with a minimum of $300,000.00 liability coverage.
(d) The appropriate entry fee:
$125.00 if entry paid by August 1, 2023

No Refunds will be made after July 31, 2023
If the race is cancelled by the OA, a refund of the 2023 entry fee will be issued.

Short-Handed Fleet First Warning: 0755
Cruising Fleet First Warning: 0825
Handicap Fleet First Warning with rolling starts for each section: 0840
No warning will occur after 1200 on the day of the race.
7.0 Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions shall be distributed at check-in and will also be available on-line approximately 2 weeks before the race.
Waukegan, IL to Milwaukee, WI as described in the Sailing Instructions.
Each yacht shall be scored in the Cruising, Short Handed, One Design and Spinnaker Fleet using the MWPHRF Distance Handicap Time on Distance, expressed in nautical miles. The handicap distance for scoring purposes shall be approximately 42.5 nautical miles. Note: Multihulls may compete in their own division but will not be scored for the overall winner.
Flags will be presented in Milwaukee, IL at the conclusion of the race. The overall winner’s trophy will be presented at the Annual Awards dinner of the Milwaukee Yacht Club.
11.0 Safety Equipment and Special Regulations
11.1 It is recommended that all yachts comply with US Sailing Nearshore Safety Equipment Recommendations effective January 1, 2023, version 2023.0. A copy of those recommendations as available on the race registration website in Regatta Networks.
12.0 Disclaimer of Liability
All participants (Skippers, Crew Members, Associated Persons) participate in the Race entirely at their own risk. See Rule 3, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for property damage or personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the race.
Docking and accommodation information in Waukegan and Milwaukee will be included with each contestant’s entry acknowledgement.
